Upcountry South Carolina

Upcountry South Carolina – Discovery Begins Here! The Upcountry is rich in history. Today’s travelers may hear echoes of the area’s Cherokee heritage in place and river names such as Seneca, Keowee, Jocassee, Tamassee, Tokeena, Toxaway, and Eastatoe. In the late 1700’s, this was the American frontier. Oconee Station and Walnut Grove Plantation provide glimpses into this timeframe. The Upcountry played a pivotal role in the American Revolutionary War. Cowpens National Battlefield and Kings Mountain National Military Park interpret these events for thousands of visitors each year.
